OVERVIEW

Our Kindergarten Programs

Northern Darebin Combined Kindergarten Association offers a 15-hour government funded 4-year-old kindergarten program, and as of 2027, all services will also offer a 15-hour government funded 3-year-old program. Both programs are delivered by qualified early childhood teachers and educators.

All of our kindergartens operate on a fully integrated 3 and 4-year-old model, meaning younger and older children learn and play together in the same group throughout the week. This approach supports strong peer relationships, mentorship between older and younger children, and a smoother transition into the four-year-old program and, ultimately, school.

Our kindergarten program is tailored to meet the individual needs and development of every child and is respectful of gender and culture. We follow the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and incorporate a range of interactive and fun activities into our sessions, including:

  • Music, movement and storytelling
  • Art and craft experiences using a variety of natural and recycled materials
  • Cooking, gardening and sensory activities
  • Promotion of good nutrition and active play
  • Teaching environmental sustainability

Best Start, Best Life & Priority of Access

NDCKA proudly supports the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life reforms, which are increasing access to quality kindergarten for children across the state. As part of these reforms, priority of access criteria for funded kindergarten places are expanding in 2027, giving greater priority to children, parents and carers with additional needs, as well as children already attending our services.

If you believe your family may fall within a priority cohort, we encourage you to get in touch with us early — this helps us support your child’s enrolment and any additional needs well ahead of their kindergarten year.
Please note in order to be eligible to enrol in a 3 year old kindergarten program, children must have had their 3rd birthday by April 30th of that year.
